Project Overview:
The Sequence Gallery is a conceptual art gallery that is dedicated to sequential art, with a focus on art from graphic novels and comic books. As part of a design team, I contributed to developing a mockup website that showcases the gallery's identity and what it has to offer. This project was created with the help of fellow graphic designers Bella Bravo and Carlen Nielson.
Ideation:
The gallery was envisioned to be for a slightly older audience, primarily visitors between 20 and 40 years old. With this in mind, we knew our mockup needed to feel polished, modern, and mature, while still appealing to younger comic book enthusiasts in order to encourage them to explore the art. Before we dived into the design of the website, we began with some research of our competitors.

Our final design consists of bold lettering and color: eye catching just like the art form, but crisp and clean to uphold its gallery status. The logo incorporates a speech bubble outline as a nod to the commonly found shape in classic comic books, tying the brand identity back to its roots.
PROCESS:

Competitor Research

As a team we researched other art galleries that focused on both sequential and contemporary art from around the United States, such as the Cartoon Art Museum, Philippe Labaune Gallery, Metropolis Gallery, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, and Comic Book Art Gallery. The overall consensus was most of the sequential art gallery websites were cluttered, outdated, and generally difficult to navigate. Both the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and Philippe Labaune Gallery we found to be a great inspiration source for our website mockup as it was easy to use and felt professional.
Once we understood the basic needs of our website, we collaborated on creating a "sitemap". This helped plan out what would be in our navigation bar, which would be seen across the site.
When the sitemap was finalized, our final stage of preparation was creating wireframes for our two mockup pages we would be designing: the "home" (top) and "about" (bottom) page. The figures on the left is for a mobile layout, and on the right a desktop layout.
