Project Overview:
Sequence: More Than Just Pictures is a typographic-driven project where I formed an idea of an Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) conference. This conference focuses on the genre of sequential storytelling, a genre that's often dismissed as less serious and mature, by celebrating its depth, creativity, and unique place within the world of literature. These deliverables include a main event poster, event schedule posters, a conference booklet, signage, social media and email promotional material, and merchandise.
Ideation:
The visual design of the conference draws inspiration from the panels found in graphic novels and comics. Its bold color palette, red, blue, and yellow, pays homage to the halftone printing process that shaped the early days of sequential stories and art. While playful in its roots, the branding maintains a sense of sophistication through clean shapes and thoughtful compositions.
DELIVERABLES:
Main Event Poster
The main event poster needed to be eye-catching, so any important information uses a heavy typeface to ensure it's legible from afar. It features artwork from the keynote speaker of the event MariNaomi (Mari Naomi).

The event also had multiple posters that were designed to inform visitors of session times. They use the same underlying grid that is seen throughout the brand identity.

The signage repeats the elements of the main event and schedule posters, just more simplified in order for it to be read clearly.

As a way to outreach to the AWP community, an e-mail and instagram post were also designed. It includes basic information about the event, as well as a button to register.

Two ID cards were created for event speakers and attendees. They are differentiated by color.

To elevate the brand even further, merchandise was also created for the conference. The objects were chosen due to their everyday uses for those who enjoy sequence artwork.

An event booklet was created as an additional takeaway for the conference. It includes a keynote speaker introduction, conference schedule, panel information, an article, and event map.
